Scienceworks Museum Melbourne Project: The "Lightning Show" Building Home to Victoria University's High Voltage Theatre

Description: Melbourne's Scienceworks Museum is open to major public attendances 363 days per year and in particular during Australia’s peak summer holiday months. On days when temperatures were over 32 degrees, the Lightning Shows at the Victoria University High Voltage Theatre would be cancelled, resulting in disgruntled patrons and loss of visitation.

Requirement: Increase the number of shows they could run in the summer months and reduce the internal temperature of the Lightning Show building.

Process: Paint tin roof and walls in Energy Star Metalflex. There were panels to be highlighted in different colours and Scienceworks management were able to select from 40 colours in the range.

Outcome: The reduction of the building’s temperatures enabled more shows to run daily in the summer months and other days over 32 degrees.

Science Works were happy with the result and were also eligible for funding assistance through Sustainability Victoria.
